KI - 27 Sham Valley Trek
Termed as an easy going trek of Ladakh, the Sham valley trek involves treading across a spectacularly beautiful road around 125 kms west of Leh on which lies the earliest surviving monastery of Ladakh known as Yung-drung or the Swastika. This Gompa is remarkably built on sand stone and dates back to almost the 11th Century. In fact each monastery of Ladakh is distinct in itself and this particular trek is ideal for those who desire to experience the unique ambience and architect of Ladakh’s monasteries. Many other monasteries that are worth visiting include Temsigang, Ridzong and Likir.
Other interesting aspect of this trek is the diversity of villages that dot the trek route. Many of these are one of the richest in the area and even take one through the Indus valley civilization.
Overall this is a moderately difficult trek in which the maximum height one traverse is almost to the level of 4500 m. But the trek is indeed rich to get a complete glimpse of Ladakh’s culture.
