KI - 21 Assam & Arunachal
This Itourify India’s special India tour package takes you to the north – eastern region of India, which is country’s most varied yet least visited part. Before independence this beautiful area was all one big state called Assam, but gradually it has been divided into several states of which Arunachal Pradesh too is one.
Assam mostly consists of the plains around the Brahmaputra and is lush green while Arunachal Pradesh is one of the most sparsely populated states of the country and is home to a complex mix of communities. People of both the states are friendly and simple.
So desirous of exploring these hidden treasures, the one that inhabits the famous one-horn rhinoceros, rhododendrons to orchids-then opt for this tour.
Day 01 :
Upon arrival in Guwahati, meet and assist and transfer to Hotel. On the way to hotel you will Kamakhya Temple – one of the greatest shakti pith in the country. P.M. Visit state museum, Emporium and local market. O/N in hotel.
Day 02 :
After breakfast, drive to Tejpur (180 kms/04 hrs), upon arrival check in at your hotel. P.M. Visit Cole Park – where you can see different sculptures collected from different parts of Assam and Agnigarh which is a historic place and the sculpture there depicting local Assamese Folklore. O/N in hotel.
Day 03 :
After breakfast, drive to Bomdila (160 kms/05 hrs) at an altitude of 8000 ft. Upon arrival Check in at your hotel. P.M. Visit local market. O/N in hotel.
Day 04 :
After breakfast, you will be visiting the upper Gompa, go to a nearby school run by the monastery. Then drive 25 kms to Rupa and visit small monasteries. We will access a vantage point from where, on a clear day, one can see the towering peaks of the eastern Himalayas including Gorichen the Peak. Return to Bomdila and have lunch. PM visit a small museum at omdila town (closed on Sundays). O/N in hotel.
Day 05 :
After breakfast drive to Tawang (181 kms/07 hrs) and on the way we will visit the centuries old Dirang Dzong at Dirang and the village with its traditional houses. Afterwards we will drive to Tawang at 10000 ft. On the way we will be crossing the Sela Pass at 14000 ft, the highest motorable pass in the Northeast. The Pass is covered with snow from mid December to mid May. On arrival check into your hotel.. Evening walk around Tawang town. O/N in hotel.
Day 06 :
Today we will visit the famous 400 years old Tawang Monastery. Intermingled with the lamas (monks). Lunch. It is home to more than 500 Lamas. It also houses the Parkhang library: a collection of the 400-year-old Kangyurs which consists of 110 volumes with 400-500 pages in each bundle in addition to invaluable manuscripts We will also visit the Monjushree Orphanage Institute and some other monasteries and places in and around Tawang. O/N in hotel.
Day 07 :
After breakfast drive to Bomdila. Enroute we will visit the Jaswantgarh Memorial – a legend associated with 1962 Indo-China war. On arrival check into Hotel Tsepal Yangjom. Evening at leisure. O/N in hotel.
Day 08 :
Drive to Kaziranga National Park (290 kms/08 hrs) in Assam which is a World Heritage Site and a paradise for bird watchers. Check into Bonhabi Resort or similar on arrival. O/N in hotel.
Day 09 :
Early morning we will see the National Park on elephant back. Apart from the Rhino, other species found are hog deer, swamp deer, wild buffalo, elephants and if you are lucky, the tiger. It is virtually a paradise for bird watchers, with a variety of migratory and resident birds. It is also home to pelicans, storks and darters as there are a number of water bodies inside the Park. We will return to the Lodge for breakfast. Mid morning we will visit nearby tribal village inhibited by Mishing tribe. Lunch. PM Jeep safaris (Eastern range) inside the park. Return to the Lodge at dusk. O/N in hotel.
Day 10 :
This morning after breakfast you will be transferred to Nameri National Park (110 kms/03 hrs). Upon arrival in Eco Camp, you will be staying at tented camps covered with thatch roofed. These camps have attached bath with hot and cold water facility. Lunch. PM trek inside the park and look out for the rich bird life that this park has to offer. Return to the Camp in the evening. Dinner and overnight. Nameri houses birds like Merganser, Pallas’s fish eagle, lapwings, cormorants, ruddy shell duck, kingfishers and perhaps the elusive WWWD or the Great Indian Hornbill.
Day 11 :
After early breakfast you will be transferred to Manas National Park (300 Kms/07 hrs) - a Project Tiger Reserve and a World Heritage Site. On arrival check in at The Bansbari Lodge. Lunch will be on the way. Dinner and overnight.
Day 12 :
Early morning elephant safari for about an hour. Return to lodge for breakfast. Mid morning we will visit on foot a nearby tribal village walking alongside a tea garden. Lunch at the lodge. Then go to the river to see elephant bathing and feeding. PM go for another jeep safari inside the park. We will drive right up to the Bhutan border where we can see a gushing river coming down from the Bhutan Himalayas. Sip a hot cup of Assam tea as you see the spectacular sight of the sun going down. Return to the lodge in the dark, this time our naturalists accompanying you will have spot lights ready to gaze at the wild life that might be present in the vicinity. Dinner and overnight.
Day 13 :
Drive back to Guwahati (176 kms/04 hrs) to board flight for your onward journey.
